People want to get rid of AL govt: BNP

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said that the people of the country have only one desire that is to get rid of the ‘fascist’ Awami League government.

“We along with the people are in a long struggle for ousting the fascist Awami League government as they have snatched every rights, including the voting right of the people,” Mirza Fakhrul said while expressing condolence on the death of a injured Luxmipur district BNP men at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital.

Injured BNP men, including the family members of Krishak Dal leader Sajib killed in an ‘attack of the ruling Awami League men’ on July 18 during BNP’s road march programme, were present in the programme.

The BNP activists injured in firing of rubber bullets by the police also joined the condolence meeting.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman attended the condolence programme virtually. The event was organised for giving financial supports to the injured party men and family members of Sajib.

BNP senior leaders including Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and Abul Khair Bhuian were present at the event.

Earlier on the day, BNP Secretary General sent a statement to the media protesting arresting his party men.

Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the party leaders and workers have been kept confined to prisons implicating them in false and fabricated cases unlawfully.

Apart from expressing deep concern, he also cautioned the government asking to release the party leaders and workers as early as possible.

In the statement, Mirza Fakhrul said despite the directives of the upper court and granting of bails, keeping the BNP leaders and workers confined to prisons in old cases is completely “inhuman and politically vindictive and revengeful.”

The illegal Awami League government has created such heinous examples constantly to suppress the democratic struggle of the opposition parties including BNP.

The BNP Secretary General issued the statement in the wake of the arrest of BNP’s commercial affairs secretary Salauddin Ahmed, central assistant organising secretary (Barisal division) Akan Kuddusur Rahman, national executive committee’s assistant relief affairs secretary Shafiqul Huq Milon, central committee member and Rajshahi district BNP convener Abu Sayeed Chand, Cumilla City BNP convener Udbatul Bari Abu, Gazipur City BNP president Shawkat Hossain Sarker, Dhaka City South BNP member secretary Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Bogura district BNP general secretary Ali Asgar Hena, Nilphamari district BNP general secretary Zahurul Islam, Feni District BNP member secretary Alal Uddin Alal, joint convener Yakub Nabi, former president of Bagerhat District BNP Abdus Salam, and keeping hundreds of leaders and workers of BNP in jail.

He also demanded immediate release of all the arrested leaders and workers of BNP.

BNP announces routes of Friday’s mass processions: The BNP has announced the road map of the mass processions in the capital demanding non-partisan caretaker administration to oversee a new parliamentary election.

Dhaka north and south city units of the party will bring out separate processions at 2pm after Jumma prayers on Friday.

Dhaka city north unit will bring out the mass procession from Badda Subastu Tower to Abul Hotel, while BNP south unit will bring the procession from Kamalapur Stadium to Malibagh Rail Gate.

All like-minded parties and allies will simultaneously hold the mass procession programme.

Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will led the Dhaka north unit procession while BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan and, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chaudhury, among others, will present in the procession.

The party’s standing committee member Mirza Abbus will led the Dhaka south unit procession while BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, among others will present in the procession.
