Turmoil situation likely in country due to political movement

Reza Mahmud :
Country may witness a more turmoil situation in the rest days of the year as the main opposition party BNP and its likeminded political parties are determined to wage tougher agitation to press home its one point demand of conducting next polls under neutral government.

“Our movement would not be paused for a moment for any types of occasions. We never would be stopped in for watching the occasions or events in future days,” BNP Standing Committee Member Goyeswar Chandra Roy told it to The New Nation.

Talking with The New Nation in his Nayapaltan office, Goyeswar Chandra Roy said, “The ongoing movement is not for meeting BNP’s demand, but to press home of the requirement of the people of the country. So, it will be continued until fulfil.”

Sources said, BNP high-command is determined to make the government compel to be resigned immediately for pave the way of conducting the next general election under a non-party caretaker government.

The party with its likeminded 36 other political parties joined the street agitations simultaneously for the past several months.

They have organised several political programme including rallies, grand rallies, sit in programmes across the country including Dhaka recently.

Meanwhile, several development partner countries also raise their voices on favouring fair and inclusive polls in Bangladesh. On the other hand, the election
commission (EC) said that it has made a plan to announce the schedule of the next general polls on October.

As per the EC’s plan it would conduct the general election on December this year or January next year.

In this account, there are only three or four months are remaining before the next polls.
In these circumstances, the political parties including the BNP are now preparing their next course of action to realise their demand.

The BNP high-commands are passing very busy times in meetings in party forums and with the likeminded political parties involved in simultaneous movement for drafting the next street programmes.

Political analysts say that as there are very short time in hand to settle the dispute over conducting the next polls whether under the incumbent regime or a neutral government, the parties would be serious on their own demands naturally.

They said the political environment might be more conflicting if negotiations are not take place.

They urged the parties to initiate dialogues over settling the crisis.

Meanwhile, the ruling party is observing the August as the month of mourning while the 15 August is to be observed as the national mourning day.

When contacted, BNP Joint-General Secretary Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal told The New Nation, “If you listen the speeches of the ruling Awami League leaders in their recent programmes including the PM’s public meeting in Rangpur, they made laughing remarks about BNP.”

“AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s speech in Sheikh Kamal’s grave in the capital’s Banani also the same.

They delivered ridicules speeches about the BNP. My question is that where is their mourning during this August? Their body language and speeches was full of laughter while mentioning BNP.

If they forget the mourning then which the others have to do? We must go forward with our movement.”

Alal, said their movement would be tougher in the days ahead.

When contacted, Badiul Alam Majumdar, Secretary of the civil society platform for good governance, Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (SUJAN) told The New Nation, “The political parties are now found in face to face as the general polls are nearing. It may create more conflicting situation in the country.”

“We urged all to initiate dialogue instead of creating conflicts in the streets.”

Sitting together for resolving the political crisis would be priority to the government and the opposition as they are responsible for the peace in the country.
