A new thana, 3 upazilas approved

As part of the expansion of the administrative structure, the National Implementation Committee on Administrative Reorganization (NIKAR) has approved the formation of three new upazilas and one new thana.

The decision was taken at NIKAR’s 121st meeting held on Wednesday at the conference room of the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman presided over the meeting.

The newly approved upazilas are Fatikchhari Uttar in Chittagong, Bangra in Cumilla, and Pagla in Mymensingh. Alongside this, approval has also been given for forming a new thana named Halda in Chittagong.

According to NIKAR’s decision, six unions of Fatikchhari upazila in Chittagong will be brought together to form the “Fatikchhari Uttar” upazila. Similarly, by reorganizing Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla, the “Bangra” upazila will be formed, and eight unions of Pagla thana under Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh will be brought together to establish the “Pagla” upazila.

In addition, a decision has been made to divide Hathazari thana of Chittagong to form a new thana named “Halda.”

Another important administrative decision was taken at the meeting. Approval has been given to administratively attach the portions of the Purbachal New Town Project-under the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK)-that fall within Narayanganj and Gazipur districts, to Dhaka district.

Present at the meeting were Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, Housing Minister Zakaria Taher, State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, along with senior officials of the concerned ministries.
