Inflation drops slightly to 9.69% in July

Bangladesh experienced a marginal decrease in overall inflation to 9.69 per cent in July which was recorded 9.74 percent on a point-to-point basisin June, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data published yesterday.

The state-run BBS data showed, food inflation experienced an increase to 9.76 percent in July, compared to 9.73 percent the previous month.By contrast, the non-food inflation eased to 9.47 percent last month from 9.6 percent in June.

However, this was the second consecutive month the consumer prices witnessed decline since May when inflation rose to 9.94 percent, an 11-year high.

BBS officials attributed the slight drop in last month’s overall inflation to a decline in the price of non-food items.

The general point to point inflation both at the urban and rural areas also declined in July.
The point to point inflation in the rural areas in July was 9.75 percentage point down from 9.82 percentage point in June.

On the other hand, the point to point inflation in the urban areas in July was 9.43 percent down from 9.45 percent in June.

Meanwhile, the wage rate index in July witnessed an uptrend with 7.52 percent which was 7.39 percent in June, as per data from BBS.
