Farmers busy tending ‘auto beans’ in advance in Ishwardi

After only ten days, Early “Auto Beans ” will come to the market. Every year the cultivation of early varieties of beans is increasing in Ishwardi. The early varieties of beans are named ‘auto beans’. Farmers here have benefited from auto bean cultivation. Auto variety bean plants are in full bloom in the loft. The farmers of Ishwardi are spending busy time in service. Farmers and Agriculture Department said that the advance beans will be available in the market within the next ten days. Early bean cultivation starts in the middle of Jyashta. And at the end of the hearing, it is taken to the market. In the meantime, beans have started to be harvested.
It is known that auto bean cultivation is going on in Ishwardi for more than a century. Cultivation is increasing every year due to good yield and high price. A huge wholesale market has been developed in Muladuli of Ishwardi based on bean cultivation. Last year, 1,130 hectares of soybeans were planted, but this year the target has been increased to 1,190 hectares. 850 hectares of land has been cultivated in Muladuli Union.
Ajmal Hossain, a farmer of Sheikhpara village, said that even though it is a winter vegetable, early varieties of beans are being cultivated here for more than a century. The yield of beans begins at the end of the season. Demand for early beans is high, prices are good. However, the production of these beans is very labor intensive. Insect attacks are more common in bean fields. Besides, due to excessive rain and excessive drought, bean yield is likely to be damaged.
Intaj Uddin of Baghachala village said that it costs about 30-35 thousand taka per bigha to plant auto beans. The cost of growing beans is high. If the yield is good, it is sold for Tk 1 lakh 40 thousand to 1 lakh 50 thousand. In the beginning the prices are high in the market. Initially it was sold at Tk 200 per kg or more.
Bean farmer Alauddin Khan said that the farmers here are very profitable by cultivating early varieties of auto beans. Last year I planted auto beans on 12 khata land. 1 lakh 20 thousand taka profit excluding expenses. Many people have become self-sufficient by planting auto beans in advance. The bean plant is in full bloom. Beans have also been produced from flowers.
Aminul Islam Babu, Advisor of Muladuli Vegetable Market Association, said that beans have not started coming yet. It is expected that within 8-10 days, auto varieties will start appearing in the market.
Agriculture Deputy Assistant Officer Zahidul Islam Zahid said that early varieties of beans called Auto-Rupban-Ghrit Kanchan-Rupsi are cultivated here. Compared to last year, the cultivation of beans in the upazila has increased. Last year, 1,130 hectares of land was cultivated under beans. This time 1,190 hectares of land has been set for cultivation. Upazila Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar said that the largest number of bean plantations in the country is in Ishwardi. Farmers will be able to sell in the market within the next 10 days. The early varieties of beans available in different markets of the country including the capital are produced in Ishwardi. Farmers are being advised on how to grow early beans with less use of fertilizers and pesticides.
