He said numbers of patients are now suffering from undiagnosed diseases in Bangladesh and elsewhere.

The public health expert said that two main reasons behind sufferings of the number of patients from undiagnosed diseases. One of those, he said, is less attentions of the doctors to the patients.

“The blame is not only to the doctors’ end, but also a reality. The doctors used to face the pressures of huge number of patients every day. As a result, every patient does not get the proper attentions from the physician,” he said. In such a situation, many diseases remain undiagnosed, he added.

Dr. Shakti presented several case studies of Bangladeshi patients of different ages who suffered long from undiagnosed disease and finally got diagnosed in his hand.
The second reason, the doctor said, is lack of proper technology to diagnose the real problem or disease.

Dr. Shakti said most of the hospitals have lack of adequate equipment and technologies to diagnose the rare diseases.

Dr. Shakti said, undiagnosed diseases are common, affecting number of people worldwide.
Experts said it caused high rates of morbidity and mortality.

They include rare disorders which are difficult to recognize, atypical manifestations of more common disorders, yet to be described conditions and manifestations that cannot be explained medically.

The majority which is about 80pc of undiagnosed diseases are believed to have a genetic etiology.

Undiagnosed disorders are often not amenable to the traditional diagnostic approaches and the lack of a diagnosis leads to repeated clinical consultations and laboratory testing, causing substantial personal and familial emotional and financial stress.
