If BNP tries to blockade streets, their ways to be blocked: Quader

Staff Reporter  :
The ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday criticised the BNP’s ‘sit-in’ programme today at entry points into the capital saying ‘If BNP tries to block streets, their paths will also be blocked.’

Meanwhile, the ruling party’s youth wing Bangladesh Juba League, announced peace rallies to be held at all major entry points of Dhaka today (Saturday).

Announcing a resolute stance against corruption, looting, and illegal activities allegedly perpetuated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its leader, Tarique Rahman,
the AL General Secretary said, “Don’t threaten us. Awami League is deeply rooted into this soil.”

While addressing a gathering in the capital, Quader also vowed the government’s commitment to bring to justice the killers of intellectuals and those associated with the notorious ‘Hawa Bhaban’.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir from the party’s Friday rally in the city announced they would hold ‘sit-in’ programme at the entry points of the capital city on Saturday.

“You announced that you will blockade the streets. If you take any such programme your paths will also be blocked. Don’t threaten us,’ Obaidul Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said.

Obaidul Qader said that, if anybody tries to create anarchy and vandalism would be dealt with iron hand accordingly.

Government is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the country, he added.

Awami Juba League, Awami Swechchhasebak League and Bangladesh Chhatra League organised the rally at the South Gate of Baitul Mokarram National Mosque in protest against BNP-Jamaat’s killings, conspiracy and anarchy in the name of realizing their one-point demand.

AL presidium members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Shajahan Khan, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Bir Bikram, Qamrul Islam, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, organising secretary Mirza Azam, office secretary Biplab Barua, Swechchhasebak League president Gazi Mesbaul Hossain Shachchu and Chhatra League president Saddam Hussein addressed the rally, among others.

Juba League chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash chaired the rally while its general secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Swechchhasebak League general secretary AKM Afjalur Rahman Babu and Chhatra League general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enam moderated it.

The country’s political landscape has become increasingly tense as Quader affirmed that the Awami League is determined to confront the opposition’s so-called anti-government movement.

In a resolute call to action, Awami League general secretary called upon the party leaders and workers at all levels to maintain utmost vigilance.

Directing his message to BNP’s threat to occupy entry points of the capital and disrupt peace, Quader questioned their intentions. He firmly asserted that Awami League would not be deterred or back down in the face of such challenges.

“We won’t let anyone to destroy public property; we won’t let anyone to destroy peace. Our leaders and workers will remain vigilant all day and night to resist BNP’s evil design,” he said.

Highlighting the indomitable strength of Bangabandhu’s Awami League, Quader likened them to an impenetrable fortress safeguarding the security of the people of Bangladesh and their properties. He expressed unwavering confidence that no matter the challenges, Awami League’s vision would remain undeterred.

Amidst the unfolding situation, Tarique Rahman, who is currently residing in London, has been issuing instructions to BNP party workers in a bid to wage a tough movement to force incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to step down.

Quader also said that there is the popular support for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, added that she will remain in her position as long as the people desire. The government’s stance reflects its commitment to addressing the concerns of the citizens and ensuring democratic processes.

The AL general secretary alleged that BNP has written a letter to the United Nations seeking support for their cause and hiring lobbyists to represent their interests on the international stage.

In response to BNP protests, Quader said that the Awami League would not stand idle, party leaders and workers will remain alert to maintain peace and stability in the country.

Delwar Hossain Shahjad, the deputy office secretary of the Central Juba League, confirmed the announcement to this correspondent.

He said, “Tomorrow (Saturday), at 11 a.m., Juba League will hold peace rallies at all significant entry points of Dhaka.”
