Pabna Correspondent :
Deputy Speaker of Parliament and 11 MPs from reserved women’s seats having lunch at the Jamaat leader’s house, which created mixed reaction among the leaders and workers of the grassroots Awami League and its affiliated organizations in Ishwardi.

On Wednesday, 11 MPs from the reserved women’s seat led by Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Shamsul Haque Tuku visited the progress of Rooppur nuclear project.

It is said that in the afternoon they took lunch and rested at the house of Amir of Ishwardi Pourashova Jamaat Unit Golam Azom.

According to statement issued by the Parliament Secretariat, the lunch was organized under the management of the local Member of Parliament (MP).

Local MPs say that the matter of travel and lunch for the visiting team was arranged by the Jatiya Sangsad.

However, the local Awami League leaders and activists have been facing an embarrassing situation over the luncheon programme at Jamaat leader residence.

Some leaders of Ishwari Awami League said that the matter was so pathetic that they have to feed at the Jamaat leader’s house.

The lawmakers who took lunch with Deputy Speaker are-Nuruzzaman Biswas, Shaheen Akhtar, Khaleda Khanam, Shirin Ahmed, Jinnatul Bakiya, Basanti Chakma, Shamsun Nahar, Nargis Rahman, Monira Sultana, Nadira Yasmin, Ratna Ahmed, Selina Islam, Salma Chowdhury and Dorothy Rahman.

After visiting the Rooppur nuclear project site, they dined at the house of Amir of Iswardi Pauro Jamaat Ghulam Azam and also planted a tree sapling in the yard of RRP Feed Mill, an industrial establishment.

Several leaders of the local Awami League on condition of anonymity said , “We are unhappy and embarrassed about the invitation to the Jamaat leader’s house. They are all powerful people of Awami League.”

Abul Kalam Azad Mintu, general secretary of Ishwardi Upazila Awami League, said that the owners of RRP group are four brothers, Ghulam Azam, Mansoor Alam, Monirul Alam and Azmat Alam. I know Gholam Azam as the Amir of Pauro Jamaat.

“Members of Parliament including the Deputy Speaker went there. I also went because of organizational reasons. But this is not a political event. It is embarrassing for me to comment on the matter,” he said.

Rafiqul Alam, director of RRP Group and nephew of Ghulam Azam said, “Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku is my maternal uncle. On our invitation, MPs including him came to our homes and businesses. They left after having lunch.”

Pabna District Jamaat Secretary Iqbal Hossain confirmed the political identity of Golam Azam and said, “We participate in social events. People of MP-minister level can come there.
