Eamon Gilmore, the European Union’s Special Representative for Human Rights, on Wednesday held a meeting with trade unions and labor rights experts to talk on various topics, including wages, working conditions and trade union recognition in the context of EU trade preferences.
Additionally, there was a meeting with women and LGBTQI activists to address gender-related issues in the capital.
During his six-day stay, Gilmore is engaging in discussions with concerned government officials regarding the Rohingya issue and will also visit refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In May, during his visit to Brussels, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam had meetings with Gilmore, among others.
The role of the Special Representative for Human Rights is to enhance the effectiveness and visibility of EU human rights policy.
This position has a broad, flexible mandate, allowing for adaptation to evolving geopolitical circumstances.
The special representative collaborates closely with the European External Action Service, which fully supports their work.
