Every political party has the right to engage in politics: HC

Staff Reporter  :
The High Court (HC) on Sunday said every political party has the right to engage in politics.
If anybody comes to this court with a petition for a direction to this effect, it will pass necessary order in accordance with law and the constitution, the bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury said.

The bench said this while Advocate Muhammad Tajul Islam, a Supreme Court lawyer and joint convener AB Party (Amar Bangladesh Party), requested it to issue a suo moto (voluntary) rule against the Election Commission’s decision not to register several political organisations including his party.

He placed reports published before the bench some newspapers, saying that the EC has registered a few nonexistent organisations as political party.
But the EC has not registered his party (AB Party) as political party though it has fulfilled all the necessary conditions and criteria and submitted relevant documents to the commission, Tajul said.
He told reporters that he will move a writ petition before the HC challenging the EC’s decision after receiving its official order.
