The BNP announces a grand rally in the capital on Thursday (July 27) to press home its one-point demand of resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and holding the next national polls under a neutral government.

The party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement on Saturday while addressing a youth rally organised by its associate bodies-Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal-at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

BNP Secretary General said the rally will be held in the capital as part of their simultaneous movement. He, however, did not mention the venue of the rally.

Mirza Fakhrul called upon the people from all walks of life to join the rally spontaneously to speed up the fall of the Awami League government.

The other political parties and alliances which are included with the simultaneous movement with the BNP also announced to hold rallies on the same day.

Though the youth rally was scheduled to begin at 2:00pm, thousands of opposition leaders and activists mainly belonging to the three organisations began to gather at the venue since morning.

Though the stage broke down at about 1:50pm and the rally began about one hour later with the recitation from the holy Quran.

BNP Secretary General said, there will be no possibility of holding free, fair, acceptable and participatory election under the AL government.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “No election would be held under Sheikh Hasina. The next national polls must be held under a neutral government after resignation of the current AL government.”

“The AL government has cancelled the caretaker government from the national constitution by using Justice Khairul Haque as they feared of neutral election. If any neutral election held, the AL never can win more than 10 seats in the national Parliament,” Mirza Fakhrul said.

Family members of forcibly disappearances participated in the youth rally and demanded justice.

Youth leaders and activists from various parts of Dhaka wearing different coloured caps and carrying banners, festoons, placards and portraits of the party’s top leaders started gathering at the venue in processions from the morning.

Apart from the main rally venue, the BNP loyalists took positions on the nearby roads, disrupting traffic in the adjoining areas.

A huge number of law enforcers have been deployed around the rally venue to fend off any untoward incident.

The three organizations earlier held five youth rallies and got a huge response from the young people in different cities across the country.
