Orphanages accused of emblazing money in Barishal

Allegations have been made against the managing committees of the orphanages in Bakerganj Upazila of Barishal District for misappropriating huge among of money allocated by the government. They have been preparing fake list of the orphans showing fake documents.
According to the Social Service Office sources, Bakerganj has government allocation in 14 orphanages according to the list of the upazila social service office of 2023.
From January to June 23, total Tk 2 crore 4 lakh 20 thousand have been allocated in the official allocation list for 14 orphanages.
According to the list of Narangal Nesar Mahal Darus Sunnah Orphanage of Kalaskathi Union of Bakerganj Upazila, Tk 3 lakh 12 thousand has been allocated for six months against the list of 26 orphans for current fiscal.
But after visiting the site on Tuesday (July 18) it was seen that there are seven students in the orphanage, but most of their homes are in Kalapara and Khepupara areas of Patuakhali district and their parents are alive, visiting journalists said .
Those students said that monthly salary from each of them and funds given by government spend for food, clothing and medical treatment.
In Dakshin Narangal village of the upazila, there is an abandoned building named Nesar Mahal Darus Sunnah Madrasah and Orphanage.
Besides it has been found that Charadi Salehia Orphanage of the upazila is running in the same way. Tk. 2 lakh 40 thousand taka has been allocated in the name of 20 orphans in the list of that orphanage in government allocation of 2023.
On July 18, it was found that there were only 11 students in the orphanage and parents of them have are alive and residing in different areas of Bakerganj upazila.
Apart from this, the activities of Raghunathpur Marhum Abdul Ali Orphanage, Mohammadia Hamidia Orphanage, Parshibpur Satghar Orphanage, Hasina Chowdhury Orphanage, Patkathi Nesaria Orphanage, Darul Amin Orphanage are also running in the same way by preparing fake list of orphans.
In this regard, Bakerganj upazila social service officer Hemayet Uddin said, I have come to this upazila three months ago. I do not know this well about the matter. However, if any fake organization is found on inquiry, necessary action will be taken against them.
Barishal Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Hossain said, I do not know about this. Even then, to inquire about the irregularities, the concerned UNO will be instructed to investigate and submit a report. If the allegations are found to be true, strict action will be taken against those for embezzling money in the name of orphans.
