College student stabbed to death in capital

A college student was stabbed to death allegedly by muggers in Dhanmondi area of the city.
The victim student has been identified as Adnan Sayed Rakib, 18, an HSC candidate from Ideal College in Dhaka’s Central Road.

He was attacked near the Sheikh Jamal Club in Dhanmondi around 11 pm on Sunday night.
Parvez Islam, Officer in charge OC of Dhanmondi police station confirmed the matter to the media saying that Rakib was returning home with a friend from Dhanmondi Lake when they encountered the mugger.

When Rakib refused to give his phone, the muggers stabbed him. After the incident, he was taken to Anwer Khan Modern Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 12am, the SI added. Police recovered Rakib’s body afterwards and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s morgue.

Rakib’s father, Md Nurunnabi, is an office aide at the Ministry of Public Administration. He was the youngest among three siblings, Parvez added.

Meanwhile, classmates and students blocked a road in Dhanmondi area demanding justice for the murder Adnan Sayed Rakib, a student of the capital’s Ideal School and College.

They gathered on the road in front of Anwar Khan Modern Hospital in Dhanmondi around 2.30 pm on Monday (July 17). As of writing this report (5 pm), the students’ blockade is going on.
