In the past 24 hours leading up to 8 am on Monday, the country witnessed a surge in dengue cases, with at least eight patients succumbing to the disease and 765 others were admitted to hospitals.
According to the Dhaka Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of dengue patients has now reached 23,282, out of which 6,023 cases have been reported outside the capital city of Dhaka. Shockingly, this year alone, 83 individuals have lost their lives due to dengue.
Among the reported fatalities, 45 deaths occurred in Dhaka, 21 in Cox’s Bazar, 11 in Chattogram, five in Barishal, and one in Narsingdi.
Currently, 2,695 patients are still receiving treatment for dengue, with 268 cases being attended to outside the capital.
On the other hand, 20,504 patients have been discharged from hospitals, including 5,205 individuals from areas outside Dhaka.
Recently, the highest number of daily deaths occurred on July 15 when seven dengue patients lost their lives.
Unfortunately, the relentless prevalence of dengue continues to wreak havoc across the nation, challenging the efforts of authorities concerned.
With the growing influx of patients each day, hospitals are struggling to provide adequate treatment due to the severity of the dengue outbreak.
