Order issued to seize foreign ship at Mongla Port

An order was issued by a higher court to seize a foreign commercial ship named MV. Panapiya Kanala carrying the national flag of Liberia that arrived at Mongla Sea Port on July 13 after loading 31 thousand metric tones coal from Indonesia for Rampal Thermal Power Plant and imposed a ban order asking the Mongla Port authorities not to issue any NOC (No Objection Certificate) to the ship until and unless a further notice is issued by the court.
It may be mentioned here that Md. Abul Hasan, the local representative of China CCX Shipping Company Ltd filed a damage suit in a High Court bench Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court on July 12 against the ship demanding a sum of Tk,2 cores 99 lakh 45 thousand 1 hundred 82.66 as compensation. In response of the damage suit Justice Khijir Ahmed Chowdhury, Judge of the High Court bench passed the above order. Captain Md. Shahadat Hossain, Deputy Harbor Master of Mongla Port Authorities confirmed the matter and told, in comply with order of the High Court the Port authorities already issued letters to the concerned department of the Port, Coastguards, Naval force and the local shipping agent of the foreign ship to take necessary action so the ship cannot leave the Port at anyway.
Khondokar Riazul Haq, Assistant Manager, the local shipping agent named Topy Shipping and Logistic Limited told, the Higher court issued an order to seize the foreign ship and the Port authorities informed me of the matter through a letter. He added, the unloading work of the imported coal will be completed within the scheduled time and the unloaded coal will be sent to Rampal Power Plant by lighter ships.
