Bus kills varsity student first, then a physically challenged boy

A recklessly driven bus yesterday first hit a university student and while fleeing, it ploughed into the pavement and ran over and killed a physically challenged boy.
The incident took place at Rampura area in the capital around 4:30pm.
Mehedi Hasan Parvez, 13, who was with her mother, died on the spot while Zahid Hasan, a student of North China Electric Power University in Changping district of Beijing, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 5:30pm.

Mizanur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Hatirjheel Police Station, said a bus of Victor Paribahan first hit the youth on the road and ran over the boy on the footpath around 50 yards away.
“The mother of the boy was begging lying her son on the pavement,” he added.

Imran Hossain, brother of Zahid, said they were heading towards Police Plaza in Gulshan in Hatirjheel when the speeding bus hit his brother.
Zahid had been attending the university classes online for the last two years. He was supposed to go to China in August, he said. Hailing from Munshiganj, Zahid used to live in Staff Quarter area of the capital.
Parvez’s mother Parveen Akter said they live in Mirpur area.

Sub-inspector Sharmin Akter Eva, a duty officer of Hatirjheel Police Station, said police seized the bus and detained its diver Arif Hossain, 31, after the accident.
The bodies were sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
