Canadian envoy holds meets with BNP leaders

The leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday said Canada is observing the situation in Bangladesh in the run up to the next parliamentary election. The BNP leaders made comment after a closed-door meeting with the Canadian envoy in Dhaka.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dr Lilly Nicholls sat in the closed-door meeting at BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan in Dhaka at 1:00pm. The meeting lasted for an hour.
BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Organising Secretary Shama Obaed, and Canadian High Commission official Bradley Coates also participated in the meeting.
BNP sources said issues relating to Bangladesh’s next national election, human rights, the current political situation, and matters of mutual interest were discussed in the meeting.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury told the journalists after meeting that Canada is closely monitoring the pre-polls situation of Bangladesh likewise the USA.
