No larva detection machine in Barishal

While the number of dengue patients is increasing and infection spreading every day in the southern division, there is no larva detection machine in the entire southern municipalities including Barishal City Corporation (BCC).
Meanwhile,BCC, Bakerganj, Banaripara, Uzirpur, Gournadi, Pirojpur, Swarupkathi, Patuakhali and other municipalities of the division are working to reduce mosquito infestation by regular spraying medicine and cleaning of bushes and forests, abandoned water and reservoirs.
On other hand SBMCH sources said they yet not received any platelet separator machine for treatment of the patients.
At present 848 patients were recovered and left the hospital and one died. Meanwhile, there are currently 236 dengue patients in the hospitals of the division on Tuesday.
Barishal City Corporation (BCC) officer in charge of cleaning department Rezaul Karim said, we have activities throughout the year to kill general mosquitoes by spreading medicine.
Rezaul Karim further said that there is no lab in Barishal to detect mosquito larvae.However, wherever we suspect that mosquito larvae are found, they are being destroyed by spreading liquid medicine. But as we don’t have dengue larva detection machine, so we could not tell whether it is Aedes, Anopheles or any other mosquito.
The veterinary surgeon of the City Corporation Dr. Robiul Islam said that small labs and kits are needed to identify the larvae of Aedes. I do not know that there is this lab or kit in Barishal City Corporation or any other municipality.
Besides as there is currently no system of platelet separation in the entire southern region, patients are being sent to Dhaka when their condition is critical. Especially when the platelets drop below 20,000, the relatives have no choice but to take the patient to Dhaka for treatment.
On other hand Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital director Dr. HM Saiful Islam said in 2022, an application was made to the ministry for a platelet separator machine, this time also the matter has been informed, hopefully the machine will be available soon.
Barishal City Corporation Health Officer Dr. Khandokar Manjurul Imam said, last two years there was no dengue outbreak in Barishal. The representative from the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) who came last two years did not find Aedes larvae in Barishal.
