Postgraduate doctors stage indefinite strike

The postgraduate doctors observed indefinite work abstention to press home their demands for increasing the present allowanceand timely payment of the same.

About two hundreds trainee doctors on Saturday held a rally on Central Shaheed Minar premise, organised by Post Graduate Private Trainee Doctors Association.

Currently, the trainee doctors(FCPS, MD, MS Diploma course completed doctors) across the country get Tk 20,000 as an allowance. But they demanded increasing theallowance to Tk 50,000.

The doctors will continue their protests until the authorities meet their demands, the protesters said.

Zabir Hossain, president of Post Graduate Private Trainee Doctors Association, said, “We have been going to some government offices in the last six month to inform our problems and increase allowances. They said our demand is reasonable, but did not take any effective steps to meet the demand. That’s why, we called the strike and it will continue until our demand is met.”

He also mentioned that this allowance is remaining very poor than other neighbourhood countries as like India, Pakistan.

“We demanded to increase our allowance to Tk50 thousand so that we can live fairly amid prices hike of essential commodities. People of our country want medical services to be world class, but providing us with minimum salary,” he added.
