Sylhet witnesses 40,000 diarrhoea patients in one year

Sixty people have died due to diarrhea in Sylhet division in the last one year. Around 40,000 people were affected by diarrhea. This information was informed from the Sylhet health director’s office on Thursday.
According to the information provided by the Health Director’s office, a total of 60 people died of diarrheal disease in four districts of Sylhet division from July 2022 to July 2023. Among them, 20 people died in Sylhet district, 9 people in Sunamganj, 11 people in Habiganj and 20 people in Moulvibazar.
During this time, another 39 thousand 139 people were affected by diarrhea in the department. Among them, 5 thousand 488 people have been affected in Sylhet district, 15 thousand 716 people in Sunamganj, 9 thousand 992 people in Habiganj and 7 thousand 943 people in Moulvibazar.
Sylhet Health Director’s Office Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Shariful Hasan said that 427 medical teams are working to deal with diarrhea in the department. From July last year to July this year, a total of 60 people died due to diarrhea in Sylhet division. There is nothing to panic about. Both diarrhea outbreaks and deaths are preventable. Reducing the burden of this disease globally requires improvements in safe water, improved sanitation and child nutrition.
