6 held over robbery in Capital

Detective Branch of Uttara of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested six members of the robbery gang while preparing for robbery from Shahbagh area of the capital on Wednesday night.

The arrested persons have been identified as Sajib Molla, Antar Das alias Shanto, Md.Nasir Uddin, Alauddin Dhali, Md.Babu and Parvez Mia.

On Wednesday at around 10:30 pm, the airport zonal team of the Intelligence and Response Department arrested them from the Hazrat Golap Shah shrine area of Shahbag police station.Two knives were recovered from their possession during the arrest.

Saiful Alam Mujahid, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police confirmed the matter to the media saying that a raid was conducted on the basis of information that some miscreants were staying with weapons on the west side of Hazrat Golap Shah Mazar for the purpose of robbery.

They were apprehended while fleeing upon sensing the presence of the police. Regarding the information obtained during the initial interrogation, he said that the arrested persons used to commit robberies in Babu Bazar, Nayabazar, Kotwali, Sutrapur and Gulistan areas of Old Dhaka, he said.

They admitted that they had assembled to commit the robbery on the day of the incident.A case has been filed against them with the Shahbag police station, he added.
