The official test run of Agargaon-Motijheel section of Dhaka Metro Rail will begin today (Friday) and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader is scheduled to inaugurate the event.
While speaking to this correspondent, M.A.N. Siddique, Managing Director of the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), said, “To ensure there is no issue during the test run, the metro rail ran along the route on Wednesday midnight.”
After the inauguration, the metro rail will run on this route on a trial basis, he added.
When asked regarding passenger carrying, he replied, “the Road Transport and Bridges Minister will brief journalists on the final inaugural date on Friday.”
On December 22 last year, Bangladesh entered a new era as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country’s first-ever elevated metro rail in the capital Dhaka from Uttara North station (Diabari) to Agargaon station.
Earlier on June 18, Obaidul Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the country’s first-ever metro rail service up to Motijheel in October this year.
Once the operation of Metro Rail starts from Uttara North station to Motijheel, the people living at Uttara, Mirpur and Agargaon will get relief from the traffic congestion during their travel and reach Motijheel within 20 to 25 minutes.
Later, the Metro Rail will be operated up to Kamalapur station after completion of the construction of the station.
