Prevention of erosion demanded in Tangail

Jamuna River Erosion has taken a serious turn in 20 villages including Chituliapara at Bhuapur upazila in Tangail district recently. Due to erosion, the river is swallowing important structures including settlements, arable lands, educational institutions and important roads.
Demanding effective measures, local residents of affected areas on Thursday blocked the Buhapur-Bangabandhu Bridge approaching regional road and formed a human chain to prevent further erosion. Due to the blockade, long queues of vehicles were created on both sides. As a result, common passengers have to suffer a lot.
Getting information, Belal Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer rushed to the spot and immediately announced for dumping adequate geo bags in the affected areas on urgent basis. Later, getting assurance, the protesters lifted the blockade.
In this regard, Belal Hossain, also said that the Water Development Board has started dumping geo bags to prevent erosion in the affected areas according to the demand of the local inhabitants. Those who have lost their homes will be listed and resettled by providing new house from government assistance. Not only that, victims who are partially affected will also provide government support to turn around with their families, the UNO also added to the reporter.
