Afghanistan win by 17 runs vs BD in 1st ODI

Lucky Afghanistan won the first One Day International (ODI) match by 17 runs against Bangladesh, according to Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method (DLS Method) at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.

Sent into bat first, Bangladesh notched up 169 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 43 overs (seven overs were curtailed due to rain).

Then, Afghanistan had a revised target of 164 to win in 43 overs.

Afghanistan scored 83 for the loss of two wickets before the rain stopped the play. Later, Afghanistan were declared the winner of the game as per DLS Method.

Towhid Hridoy of Bangladesh was the only batter, who resisted the tight and controlled bowling attack of Afghanistan. Hridoy was top-scored with 51 runs. It is Hridoy’s third half-century in his ODI campaign.

Bangladesh made a modest start as openers Tamim Iqbal and Litton Das added 30 runs before Tamim Iqbal (13) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Rahmatullah Gurbaz off Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Opener Litton Das and one-down Najmul Hossain Shanto added together 35 runs for the second wicket partnership before Litton Das (26) was caught at the deep backward square leg by Rahmat Shah off Mujeeb Ur Rahman when Bangladesh’s score was 65 for the loss of two wickets.

After Litton’s dismissal, Najmul Hossain Shanto could stay at the crease for a short period as he (12) was caught at the short fine leg by Mohammad Saleem off Mohammad Nabi when the hosts’ total was 72 for the loss of three wickets.

Second-down Shakib Al Hasan arrived at the crease but he failed to shine with the willow as the left-handed batter (15) was caught at the cover by Mohammad Nabi off Azmatullah Omarzai when the home side’s score was 109 for the loss of four wickets.
