Work ofd Tk45cr Conservation Project stopped
Md. Mosabbir Ali, Kulaura (Moulvibazar) :
The bank conservation work at three places of the Manu River Defense Dam in Sharifpur Union, bordering Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar has been completely stopped due to the blockade of the Indian Border Guard Force BSF.
Locals complain that the Indian BSF is not allowed to work on the dam of the river, so they are in fear of the river bursting in ongoing monsoon. At the same time, India is under threat to Bangladesh’s Chatla Immigration Check Post as thousands of people’s houses on the river bank.
=Sources also added that the contractor failed to work despite several attempts. Due to the erosion of the Manu River, the work of the Sharifpur part of the Moulvibazar District Protection Project is now in extreme uncertainty.
Those concerned said that in 2018, hundreds of thousands of people in Sharifpur Union of Kulaura Upazila lost their homes and faced extensive damage due to the severe flood of Manu River. At this time, the roads and bridge-culverts of the Chatlapur check post area were completely destroyed. During monsoon season
When the water in the river raises, the defense dam, the river and the village cease to exist. Along with this, the people of this bordering union spend their days in fear of floods at every moment. Many people left their homes and took shelter in the river embankment or elsewhere due to the strong current coming down the river and the roaring of the river.
