Government pond turns into garbage field in Kulaura

There is a government pond in the traditional raw market in Robirbazar of Prithimpasha Union of Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar. That pond has now turned into a wasteland. Since a long time, all the garbage of the market is being dumped in this pond.
On the surface of Robirbazar Kachabazar area, it has been seen that traders had used water in this century old pond in the middle of Robirbazar for hundreds of years. There are more than 1500 small and big shops in this market.
Due to the lack of supervision by the authorities concerned, the pond in the market has turned into a garbage dump. The stench is spreading all around. Polluting the surrounding environment. On three sides of this pond there are seed houses of the raw market. The marketsits every day. Traders sit with daily necessities including various vegetables. And on the east side is the government cow market. Shops have also been occupied on the ghat of the pond.
Local businessman Md. Hira Mia, Yusuf Ali said that the traders of raw market of Robirbazar used pond water for bath, ablution and washing vegetables.
Currently there is no water in this pond only dirt and garbage. The stench is spreading around the market. As there is no designated dustbin inside the market, some miscreants have turned the pond into a dustbin by throwing garbage in the pond.
Masuk Ahmad, President of Robirbazar Business Welfare Association, said that this is a government market pond.
The pond that used to get water in the event of a fire in the market is now filled with garbage. To the upazila administration and related parties on behalf of the business association to clean the pond and bring back the old environment
I have mentioned this several times. I am appealing to the administration to clean this pond soon for the sake of the traders and people of the market.
Local Union Land Assistant Officer Mohammad Raqib Ahmad said, I have been seeing garbage in the pond next to Robirbazar Land Office for many days. There is no government allocation to the local land office to clean it up.
Kulaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mahmudur Rahman Khondokar said, I have come to know the matter. An initiative will be taken to dig up the surface pond and bring it back to its original condition through a project. So that the beauty of the pond is preserved and the surrounding people can use water from this pond for their needs.
