Woman who lost her baby at Central Hospital dies

After the newborn’s, death, mother Mahbuba Rahman Akhi, who was the victim of wrong treatment at Central Hospital in Dhaka on June 9 and was on life support, passed away on Sunday.
She died around 2pm while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of LabAid Hospital on Sunday noon.

LabAid Hospital’s communication manager Chowdhury Meher Khuda told the media that Akhi died on Sunday noon.
On Sunday afternoon, the bodies of the mother and her son were brought to the Dhaka Medical College & hospital morgue for post-mortem.
Victim’s husband Yakub Ali Sumon said, “My everything is over. He alleged wrong treatment to his wife at Central Hospital on June 14 and forgery by the hospital authorities left her at risk of death.
Their newborn child died due to negligence by the hospital authorities, he alleged.

Mahbuba Rahman Akhi had been receiving treatment under gynaecologist Dr Sangjukta Saha of Central Hospital for the last three months who told her that she will give birth child through normal delivery.
On June 9, she was admitted to the hospital after she had felt labor pain. At that time, Dr Sangjukta was not at the facility but hospital authorities said she was there and was working at the operation theatere.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s classmates have announced a siege of the Central Hospital in connection with the death of Akhi due to wrong treatment and fraud by the authorities.
At the same time, they demand the cancelation of hospital license and arrest of Doctor Sonjukta Saha within 24 hours.

Ankhi’s classmates and 7 college students announced this on Sunday afternoon at the premises of LabAid Hospital.
In this incident, the hospital authorities dismissed 11 people including doctors and nurses. Besides, on Wednesday (June 14), a case of ‘negligent death’ was filed with the Dhanmondi Police Station in connection with the death of the newborn due to wrong treatment and the death of the mother.

Dr. Shahzadi, Dr. Muna, Dr. Mili, assistant Zamir, Ehsan and hospital manager Parvez were accused in the case. Apart from this, some other unknown persons were accused. After the case on Wednesday night, police arrested Dr. Shahzadi and Dr. Muna from the hospital.
