5 injured in Ctg BCL-Jubo Dal clash

At least five people were injured in a clash between Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo Dal activists over a rally organized by the BNP’s associate bodies in the Kazi Deori area of Kotwali Police Station in the port city on Wednesday.
The clash erupted near Chittagong College in the Chawkbazar area at around 3:30pm yesterday.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addressing the rally has said that the Awami League has been terrified at the new US visa policy as they have smuggled huge amount of money abroad.
“Awami League leaders are feeling knee jerk because they have stacked huge amount of money through laundering abroad. They are now afraid of the visa policy as their relatives and family members are living abroad,” he said this while addressing the rally on ‘Youth Rally to Save the Country’.
The BNP Secretary General said the government has filed hundreds of cases against their leaders and activists.
In those cases we cannot go to court to take bail. After receiving bail in the High Court, when we go to the lower court, the lower courts sent our people to jail, he added.
Referring to Karnaphuli tunnel development work in Chattogram, Mirza Fakhrul said that it is true that this is the first tunnel in the country. But what about the basic needs of people? He questioned.
Before the construction of the tunnel, the jobs must be guaranteed for the youths in the job market and the livelihood and medical facilities of the people.
“Today is the time to turn around. My freedom, sovereignty is threatened today. The future is in jeopardy. The youths must come forward,” the BNP senior leader said.
With President of the Central Jubo Dal Sultan Salauddin Tuku presided, local committee members of BNP, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Mir Mohammad Nashir Uddin, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Md. Shahjahan, advisor to the chairperson Golam Akbar Khandkar, organizer Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Chittagong Metropolitan BNP convenor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Member Secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, South District BNP Convener Abu Sufian were present at the rally.
Earlier, on way to joining the rally, Chattra League and Juba League leaders and workers swooped on the activists of Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal.
They locked into a clash and the BCL and Juba League activists mercilessly beat the BNP men and at one time BCL allegedly broke the portraits of Bangabandhu made of glass on the occasion of observing 50th independence day in Jamal Khan in front of Khastagir High School on Wednesday afternoon, the BNP men claimed.
Eyewitnesses said when the BNP procession was heading towards Chittagong College, the clashed happened.
