BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said their party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is seriously sick and she has been fighting for her life at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
Begum Khaleda Zia was taken to the hospital at night 3:00am on Monday after falling sick seriously.
“Our leader (Khaleda Zia) has become ill again. She was taken to the hospital at 3am. She is now fighting with death for life,” Mirza Fakhrul said while addressing a road march program arranged by Dhaka South City unit BNP in Gopibagh area in the capital.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The government has jailed the former prime
minister in false and fabricated cases to keep her away from politics as it knows they would not be able to defeat BNP in any election if Khaleda Zia can move freely.”
“Awami League also knows very well that they will not even get 10 seats in a free and fair election,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul called upon the party men to get united and unite the country’s people, all democratic parties and organisations to free Khaleda Zia and give a reply to all the injustices committed against her by the AL government.
After taking admission in the hospital Khaleda Zia underwent various medical tests under the close supervision of her medical board on Tuesday.
Her personal physician Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said, “The BNP chief’s treatment is going on under the supervision of her medical board led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder.” Another doctor of Khaleda Zia, wishing anonymity, said the BNP chief underwent some medical tests in the morning as per the advice of the medical board. The medical board will review the test reports and determine her next course of treatment.
Begum Khaleda Zia has long been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, heart and eye problems. Since her conditional release in 2020, the BNP chief has been receiving treatment at the hospital under a medical board headed by cardiologist Prof Shahabuddin Talukder.
