Hyena severs child’s wrist at National Zoo

A two and a half years old child visiting the National Zoo in the capital’s Mirpur was attacked by a hyena. One of the child’s wrists was severed when a hyena bite him. The accident occurred around 12 am on Thursday (June 8).

Director of National Zoo Rafiqul Islam Talukder said that the child came to visit the zoo with his parents from Gazipur around 11:30 am. The child’s parents crossed the security fence and came to the hyena’s cage with the child. Although the cage was covered by net. But the little kid put his hand inside the net. Then the hyena bit the child’s hand and severed it from the wrist.

He also said, ‘immediately after the incident, the security personnel took the child’s hand and brought it to the veterinary hospital.

The child was given with first aid at the hospital. Currently, the child is undergoing treatment under our supervision. In this incident, 3 separate investigation committees have been formed from the ministry and directorate.
