Staff Reporter :
BNP’s agitation is going towards the final stage at a rapid pace to unseat the government, said its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

“The movement of the people of Bangladesh for the last few years to bring back democracy is going towards its final stage at a fast pace to oust the present government,” Mirza Fakhrul said on Saturday while addressing a discussion-cum book fair and photo exhibition at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the capital (DRU) marking the 42nd death anniversary of the party founder late President Ziaur Rahman.

Mirza Fakhrul said their movement has already gained success as the global community is now advocating for a credible election and the restoration of democracy and the voting rights of people.

“17 people have already sacrificed their blood on the streets while lakhs of people have been falsely implicated in false cases and many others have been subjected to enforced disappearance and killing, but people have continued their movement for democracy,” he said.

Mirza Fakhrul said the countrys people have stood up responding to BNP’s call for a united movement to restore democracy and people’s voting rights.

He urged all political parties, all organisations, all democratic people to get united and take the movement to its final stage.

Meanwhile, the BNP has formed a data-collection committee to prepare a list of administration and law enforcement officials involved in obstructing the rule of democracy, cases of disappearance, and those who have lied or have played an oppressive role.

He said, “The BNP will take measures to collect information about cases of disappearance, arson, murder, violent attacks, false cases and on those who are obstructing the restoration of democracy.”

“We will collect the names, audio and video records, and photographs of people involved. The committee will examine the information collected and save it to take appropriate action,” he said.

Information [on the matters concerned] can be sent by contacting the leaders of the mentioned committee, or information can be given directly at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan, he added.
