13 people killed in lightning in six districts

At least 13 people were killed in lightning strikes in six districts of the country on Tuesday.
Five people including a woman were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Sadar, Raipura, Monohardi and Shibpur upazilas of Narsingdi yesterday.
The deceased have been identified as Samsun Nahar, 45, Jabed Mia, 12, Raihan Mia, 25, Khokon Mia, 30, and Suptokor, 14.

According to relatives and locals, some teenagers including Jabed Mia, were playing football in front of the house in Gopinathpur in Nilaksha Union during the lightning struck around 2 pm.

At that time being injured, Jabed was taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.
At the same time, a migrant youth named Raihan Mia died due to lightning struck in Patardia village of Daulatpur union in Monohardi upazila.
Besides, Suptokor, 14, an eighth-grade student of Sathir Para Kalikumar High School died due to lightning when he was taking a bath in the pond of Paschimkanda para alley in Narsingdi city and Khokon Mia, 30, died while working on the field during the thunderstorms.

Earlier in the morning, Samsun Nahar, 45, of Fakir Char village in Srinagar Union went to fetch straw from a land near the house to make a haystack.

At this time, she was struck with lighting. Later, Samsun Nahar died on the spot due to the lightning.
In Brahmanbaria, two people died due to lightning in two upazilas of the district.

The incident took place in Nasirnagar upazila and Bancharampur upazila on Tuesday afternoon. The two deceased have been identified as Mozammel Haque, 32, son of Moti Mia of Sonatala village, Goalnagar union of Nasirnagar upazila, and Manu Mia, 45, a resident of Manikpur of Bancharampur upazila.
In Pabna, two laborers died due to lightning while working in the field in Bhangura area of the district.

The incident took place during paddy harvesting in Betuan village of the Chatmohar upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Shakil Hossain, 19, and Ramiz Uddin, 30, residents of Chaikola village of Chatmohar upazila. At least 13 people were injured in the lightning.
In Kurigram, two farmers died due to lightning in Ulipur and Chilmari upazilas of the district on Tuesday. They died while working in the field around 5:30 pm on Tuesday. The deceased are Shahajalal, 45, of Ulipur and Abru Sheikh, 50, of Baganbari area of Raniganj Union of Chilmari Upazila.

In Patuakhali, a farmer named Abdur Rab Howladar, 60, was killed in a lightning strike when he was heading to back home with cow in Dasmina upazila of the district. The cow also died during this time.
The incident took place in Katakhali village of Upazila Sadar Union on Tuesday afternoon.
In Kishoreganj, a man named kazi Zillur, 55, was killed by lightning in Bhairab upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place in Luinda Khalapara village in Aganagar union of Bhairab upazila

Victim has been identified as kazi Zillur Rahman, son of one Kazi Golap Mia of Old Bus Stand area.
He used to work in Jagannathpur Lakshmipur Makku Molla Food Factory in Bhairab port town.
Our Staff correspondent from Kishoreganj said that kazi Zillur went on a motorcycle to the brick kiln in Luinda area of Aganagar union of the upazila to find bricks for factory renovation work. He was seriously injured by lightning on his way back. Locals rushed him to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex while duty doctor declared him dead.
