351 centres at risk

Election Commissioner Md Alamgir has said about 351 centres of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls out of the total 480 are at risk.
Alamgir made the assertion while talking to reporters at his office at Nirbachan Bhaban in capital’s Agargaon area on Tuesday.

Given the overall situation, the commissioner said, all the 480 centres are equally important to the EC, but 351 centres are risky while the rest 129 are safe.
He said various types of people are living in Gazipur City Corporation area as it is an industrial region. Many people have a tendency to commit crime in this locality. But the overall situation is under control at the moment.

The commissioner said the EC has taken adequate measures to prevent any untoward incident for holding the election in a free and fair manner.
He said about 74 executive magistrates will be working in 57 wards during the polls. About 30 teams of Rapid Action Battalions (RAB) will be deployed along with 13 platoons of Bangladesh Border guards (BGB).

Besides, 19 squads of police will act as striking forces along with 57 mobile teams in the election field. A 17-member team of law enforcers will be deployed at each important centre while ordinary centres will have a 16-member team.

He said the EC will employ its best efforts to make the GCC polls an example of fairest election in history.
