View exchange between Sylhet journalists and Press Council held

A view exchange meeting and seminar between Sylhet journalists and Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) was held on Sunday to discuss matters relating to make some amendments to the Press Council Act of 1974, Digital Sequirity ACT and information Laws.

The view exchange meeting was held at the Sylhet circuit house lounge with Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Md Mojibor Rahman in the chair while BPC chairman Justice Nizamul Haque Nasim was the chief guest.

BPC and Sylhet District administration jountly organised this Seminar. which is Conducted by BPC Superendendent Md Shakawat Hussain.
BPC secretary Masud khan, police Super Md Abdullah Al Mamun, DD of Sylhet Information office Salauddin, Sylhet Pressclub President Ikbal Siddiki, Vice president M A Hannsn, District Pressclub President Hasina Khatun Chawdhury, former president Tapos Dash Purkayastha, IMJA Leader Guljer Ahmed, BSS Correspondent Moksud Ahmed, Jalalabad Journalist Ahbab Mostafa Khan, Ajker Patrika Repirter Shakila Boby also spoke on the occasion.

About fifty local journalists of print and electronic media participated in the meeting and some gave their opinions about updating the ACT of 1974, DSA and information laws.

Addressing the newsmen, the BPC chairman said the Act was passed in 1974 but now it is 2023 so it has become necessary to make some changes under the changed circumstances.

Justice Nasim stressed the need for a minimum qualification for a journalist as due to its absence ‘yellow journalism’ has crept up to cause harm to the society and national interest as well.
