Bangladesh hopes to cement bilateral ties with Mauritius

Bangladesh anticipates strengthening bilateral engagements with Mauritius through the current visit of the Mauritian President, who is presently in Dhaka to attend the sixth edition of the Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) scheduled for Friday.

Foreign Ministry sources said that President of Mauritius Prithvirajsing ROOPUN, accompanied by his spouse and high officials of the Mauritius government, arrived Dhaka on Thursday morning.

He was received at the airport by the Minister of Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Huq.
About the schedule of the Mauritius President, Foreign Ministry said that he would join the ‘6th Indian Ocean Conference 2023’ as well as a number of bilateral programmes.

Prithvirajsing will also meet with President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban.
Foreign Minister, Dr. AK Abdul Momen and Minister of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmad will also pay courtesy calls on the visiting President of Mauritius.

Prithvirajsing will visit the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his martyred family members.

He is also due to visit the Liberation War Museum in Dhaka. During his tour, he will see textiles industries as well.
The visit of the President of Mauritius marks the first-ever president-level visit from Mauritius to Bangladesh, paving the path for ‘excellent bilateral relations’.

Foreign Ministry also said that approximately 20,000 Bangladeshi workers are currently employed in Mauritius.
Earlier on Wednesday, Dr Momen at a press conference told the journalists that Mauritius government wants to take our people to engage in agriculture and contact farming.

“We are working on enhancing our engagement in the agriculture sector in Mauritius. They are also interested in our apparel sector. The visit of the President of Mauritius will deepen our relations,” he said.
