Two BCL leaders arrested, sent to court

The two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have been arrested by police in charge of extorting Tk 10,000 from a salesman who came to buy a motorcycle. Later the police have sent them to court as the victim filed a case to the police station.

The accident took place near the glass tower of Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Wednesday at 6:30 pm. After the accident, police arrested them in front of National Museum around 8:30 pm that day.

Noor Mohammad, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station, confirmed that to The New Nation on Thursday.

“We arrested them in charge of extortion money and sent to court when the victim filed a case,” he added.

The arrestees are Noor Uddin Ahmed, Former Joint Secretary of BCL and student of the Population Science Department of DU and Abdullah Al Muntasir, Vice President of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall unit BCL and student of the Political Science Department. Both of them are students of 2017-18 academic session. The other one accused named Md Rajib is still fugitive.

The victim Zubair works in a shop named Rangdhanu Fashion in Palton City Heart Market.

“At around 6:30 in the evening, three people asked me to give everything I had. When I refused to pay, they punched me on the head and face and snatched Tk 15,000 from my wallet in the right back pocket of my pants,” according to the complaint letter.

The victim also said to the complaint letter, “At the time, I grabbed their legs and asked them to return my money. Later they returned me Tk 5000 and quickly left. After that I called 999 and the SI Jahangir Hussain of Shahbag Police Station came immediately.”

“We collected the accused mobile number and called them saying to collect more money from in front of National Museum. When they came there, we seized them,” SI Jahangir Hussain said.
