Bangladesh-Ireland 1st ODI abandoned

The first One Day International (ODI) match between Bangladesh and Ireland was abandoned as heavy rain washed out the match after Ireland scored 65 for the loss of three wickets in 16.3 overs in reply to Bangladesh’s 246/9 in 50 overs at Chelmsford in United Kingdom on Tuesday.

Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud took one wicket each for five, 21 and 21 runs respectively.

A superb 61 by Mushfiqur Rahim guided Bangladesh to score a satisfactory total.

Mushfiqur used 70 balls hitting six fours. Mushfiqur Rahim celebrated his birthday scoring his 44th One Day International half-century.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as they lost their early two wickets for 15 runs.

One-down Najmul Hossain Shanto and second-down Shakib Al Hasan mended the innings contributing together 37 runs in the third wicket stand before Shakib (20) was bowled out by Graham Hume when the Tigers score was 52 for the loss of three wickets.

After Shakib’s dismissal, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy built a worthy partnership. They put on together 50 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Shanto was caught at the deep midwicket by Mark Adair off Curtis Campher when Bangladesh’s total was 102 for the loss of four wickets.

Shanto hit a sparkle 44. His 66-ball innings was laced with seven fours.

After Shanto’s departure, Towhid Hridoy (27) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Lorcan Tucker off Graham Hume when Bangladesh’s score was 122 for the loss of five wickets.

Third-down Mushfiqur Rahim and fourth-down Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed together 65 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Miraz (27) was caught at the deep square leg by Stephen Doheny off George Dockrell when the tourists’ total was 187 for the loss of six wickets.

After Miraz’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Taijul Islam added together 33 runs in the seventh wicket stand before Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the cover by Doheny off Josh Little when the visitors’ score was 220 for the loss of seven wickets.

After Mushfiqur’s departure, batters of Bangladesh failed to build any notable partnership.
Josh Little grabbed three wickets in the space of 61 runs, while Graham Hume and Mark Adair bagged two wickets each instead of 32 and 44 runs respectively.

George Dockrell and Curtis Campher took one wicket each conceding 32 and 50 runs respectively.
