Lebanon eighth team of SAFF Championship

Lebanon are the eight team of upcoming SAFF Championship. According to the latest FIFA ranking, Lebanon’s FIFA ranking is 99. Earlier, Kuwait have confirmed that they will take part in the upcoming SAFF Championship. Kuwait’s FIFA ranking is 143. On the other hand, India’s FIFA ranking is 101.

The SAFF Championship will be held at Bengaluru in India from June 21.

General Secretary of South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Anwarul Haq Helal said to a local website on Monday, ” Lebanon have given consent to play in the SAFF Championship. The Lebanon National Football team will compete in the SAFF Championship.”

A total of eight teams will take part in the forthcoming SAFF Championship, the gala extravaganza of the South Asian Region.
The participating teams are : Hosts India, Lebanon, Kuwait, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Helal said, ” The draw-ceremony was scheduled to be held in May 21. As we have got eight teams, which will compete in the prestigious football meet, we shall discuss with India to stage the draw ceremony before the schedule time.”

It may be mentioned that Sri Lanka cannot participate in SAFF Championship as the Islanders have been banned by FIFA, the highest governing body of world football.

Earlier, Afghanistan took part in the three editions of SAFF Championship. But now they are not interested to take part in the SAFF Championship. So, the SAFF Championship will take place without Afghanistan.
