Salim Prodhan imprisoned in graft case

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced casino “kingpin” Salim Prodhan to eight years imprisonment on the charge of amassing illegal wealth and money laundering.

Judge Md Badrul Alam Bhuiyan of the Special Judge Court-8 of Dhaka delivered the verdict in presence of the convict in his crowded court on Sunday.

Besides, Salim Prodhan was fined Tk 11 lakh, in default, he will have to serve seven months more in the prison.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested him from a Bangkok-bound flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on September 30, 2019.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against him on October 27 of that year. According to the ACC, Salim amassed movable and immovable wealth worth about Tk 57.79 crore beyond his known sources of income.
