Banyan trees plantation inaugurates

The Electoral Committee for Pen Award Affairs with the collaboration of Creative Youth Association initiated Banyan Tree Plantation Campaign-2023 at Shahid Harun Park in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh on Saturday noon .

One of the banyan trees was named ‘Sheetal Chhaya’ to mark the memory of a second year student of Gouripur College, Azizul Haq Harun who was killed near Shahid Harun Park of this town on 27 January 1969 when police opened firing at a procession brought out by the students who burst into fierce action against the Pakistani rulers .

Besides, on those days some students were killed by police throughout the country, such as Asad was killed in Dhaka on 20 January, Alamgir Mansur Mintu was killed in Mymensingh town on 24 January of 969, and to help enhance natural beauty of Shahid Harun Park of Gouripur Mid-town.

UNO Fouzia Naznin was present as a chief guest and inaugurated to plant a banyan tree as part of the initiative to plant more trees, with the participation of President of The Electoral Committee for Pen Award Affairs Engr.

Mohammad Ali Zinnah , Principal of Gouripur Public College Md. Shafiqul Islam Mintu, Vice President of Gouripur Reporters Club Lutfar Rahman Khokon, General Secretary Zahirul Huda Liton, Treasurer Jhintu Debnath, Local reporter Mohammad Saiful Alam, Upazila Administration IT Technician Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary of Douhakhla Union Awami League Ramzan Ali Mukti, a female leader of Chhatra League Parashmoni, President of Creative Youth Association Imran Sheikh Pintu and many others.

General Secretary of The Electoral Committee for Pen Award Affairs Raihan Uddin Sarkar said on the occasion, banyan trees in urban areas easily filter the air and remove harmful particles.

Trees in parks can help to promote health and relaxation, improve quality of life and provide beautiful places for people to relax and socialize. Besides a banyan tree lives for a long time.

So we have planted a banyan tree named ‘Sheetal Chhaya’ in memory of martyr Azizul Haque Harun who was killed in 1969 uprising.
