Farmers are not harvesting paddy on several thousand hectares of Kulaura upazila and south bank of Hakaluki Haor. According to them, they have to pay two and a half to three thousand taka for cutting paddy of one acre land. Paddy will not be available 3 mind.

Hundreds of thousands of marginal farmers and barga farmers of Haor Par have suffered extreme losses. Agriculture Department had been active from the beginning of the season.

Farmers Shaheen Ahmad, Badi Mia, Elaich Mia, Mujib Mia, Farooq Ahmad, Harish Ali and many others planted Boro of Bri-28, 29 and 92 varieties in Zakirbil Howar of Jayachandi Union. They told that Bri-14 No. Gazi variety of paddy is very good in Howrah. But they did not get Bri-14 when they went to the upazila government warehouse during seed sowing.

Saheed Ahmad, UP of Ward No. 2 of Vukshimil Union, said that 80 percent of Bri-28 and 29 varieties of rice have been affected by blast disease. Farmers do not want to cut these paddy. I also cut some paddy which is damaged.

Riazur Rahman, a farmer in the area, told that this happened due to excess medicine and indifference of local agricultural officials. If the local agricultural officials had performed their duties properly, such a big disaster would not have happened.
