7 held on charge of looting ‘easy-bikes’

The elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) has arrested seven members of a gang, including the main planner, in the case of easybike robbery and the murder of easybike driver Shahadat Hossain.
The main planner of the murder has been identified as Md. Jewel Bepari (27). His associates have also been identified as Md. Sajjad Sheikh (23), Md. Ismail Hossain (23), Md. Limon Matubbar (21), Md. Sohag (20), Roman Shikder (18) and Md. Zakir (40). With the help of information and technology, they were arrested from Friday (April 28) to Saturday (April 29) dawn in different areas of South Keraniganj and Munshiganj areas.
After the arrest, the accused said in RAB’s interrogation that they went for a walk with the plan of robbing the easy bike. Shahadat was first beaten by the driver on top of the railway bridge in Munshiganj’s Sirajdikhan area, after which the others, including Jewel, pushed the victim and threw him off the bridge. Then they fled with the easy bike. Later, the killers sold the easy bike to the Zakir Hossain, an inhabitant of Sirajdikhan.
Battalion Commander (CO) Additional DIG Mohammad Farid Uddin gave this information in a press conference organized at RAB Media Center in the capital’s Karwan Bazar on Saturday noon.
RAB-10 officials said that according to the information of the planner of the murder and his accomplice, elite force raided Sirajdikhan area on Saturday morning and arrested Zakir.
At the time, RAB also recovered five easybikes including the stolen easybike from Zakir’s garage.
According to sources, victim Shahadat Howladar (30), a resident of Madinabagh area of Kadamtali of the capital, is an easy bike driver. He used to earn his living by driving easy bikes on rent from a garage in Chunkutia area of South Keraniganj. He came out of that garage with an easy bike at around 4 pm just the day after Eid. Shahadat did not return home that night.
Worried about this, his family members searched for Shahadat in various places, but could not find it. The next day on April 24 at 9:45 am, an unidentified person called from Shahadat’s mobile phone and said that a dead body was lying under the Sirajdikhan Kuchiamora railway overbridge in Munshiganj district.
On receiving the news, Shahadat’s family members quickly rushed to the spot and identified Shahadat’s body. At that time, the victim had bloody swelling on his head, face and forehead.
After receiving the news of the incident, Sirajdikhan Thana police came and recovered Shahadat’s body and prepared a condition report and sent the body to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. After the incident, the deceased’s brother Shahidul Islam Jasim filed a case of murder with malice accusing 2-3 unknown persons at Sirajdikhan police station.
