ASP Sohel sent to jail

A court has ordered Md. Sohel Uddin Prince, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, to be sent to jail in a case involving breach of trust, embezzlement of money, and fraud.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter Eva passed this order today, Wednesday (July 1).

The plaintiff’s lawyer, Kamruzzaman Shaheen, confirmed this to NTV Online, stating that on June 9, the same court had framed charges against Sohel under Sections 406/420 of the Penal Code for breach of trust leading to embezzlement and fraud. Later, today, the case’s plaintiff, Assistant Commissioner of Taxes Mosa. Tanzina Sathi, filed a petition seeking cancellation of accused Sohel’s bail.

The petition stated that Sohel had obtained bail on August 19, 2024, on condition of reaching a settlement with the plaintiff, but that accused Sohel had not reached any settlement or compromise regarding the matter to date.

It therefore requested that his bail be cancelled.
After hearing both sides, the judge cancelled the bail and ordered Sohel to be sent to jail.

According to case records, on November 23, 2022, Assistant Commissioner of Taxes Mosa. Tanzina Sathi filed the case against accused Sohel Uddin Prince as plaintiff before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka.

The case statement (FIR) said that in 2017, the plaintiff and Sohel Uddin Prince both passed the 36th BCS examination. Through this acquaintance, a romantic relationship developed between them. Sohel Uddin promised to marry the plaintiff.

Taking advantage of his good relationship with the plaintiff and her family, Sohel Uddin took Tk 2,32,11,000 from them on various occasions under different pretexts. Later, accused Sohel Uddin did not marry the plaintiff, nor did he return the money.
