A legal notice has been served on Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) Secretary General Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuaad, demanding Tk100 crore in compensation and an unconditional public apology over his alleged remarks regarding Dhaka University graduates and faculty.
The notice is also sent to the secretaries of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Home Affairs, as well as the vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka.
Former University of Dhaka Law Department student and Supreme Court lawyer Tanay Kumar Saha confirms on Saturday that the notice has been served.
According to the notice, Barrister Fuaad allegedly states during a discussion titled “The Awakening of Bengali Muslims and the University of Dhaka”, held at the DUCSU office on Wednesday, that all fascists, touts and criminals in Bangladesh have been produced by the University of Dhaka.
The notice terms the comments as “highly offensive, defamatory and malicious”, claiming they damage the reputation and prestige of the university both nationally and internationally, while also causing distress among alumni, students and faculty members.
It demands that Tk100 crore be deposited into the University of Dhaka Research Fund as compensation for alleged reputational harm.
The notice also sets out a 72-hour deadline, calling for three actions: legal and administrative measures against Barrister Fuaad, an unconditional withdrawal of his statement with a public apology across media platforms, and payment of the compensation amount.
It further warns that if the demands are not met within the stipulated time, a public interest writ petition will be filed before the High Court.
