Ensuring rules of law, justice for everyone stressed

With the theme “Fulfillment of Bangabandhu’s dream, opening the door to free legal services” the National Legal Aid Day was observed in Chapainawabganj on Friday.
Chapainawabganj District Unit of Legal Aid Committee brought out a rally in the Town to mark the day. The procession started from the District Judge’s Court premises at 9 am and after visiting the main roads of the town the procession ended at the same venue.
Later a discussion meeting was arranged at the conference room of the District Judge.
It was held with the Chairman of the Chapainawabganj District Legal Aid Committee and also the Chapainawabganj Senior District and Session Judge Md. Adib Ali in the chair.
District and Session Judge (Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal) Naresh Chandra Sarkar, Chief Judicial Magistrate Kumar Shipon Modok, Deputy Director (Local Government) Debendranath Orao, Civil Surgeon Dr. SM Mahmudur Rashid, Additional Superintendent of Police Abul Kalam Sahid, President of District Lawyers Association Md. Nazmul Azam, and its General Secretary Ekramul Haque Pintu spoke on the occasion.
District legal Aid Officer Rukhsana Khanam upheld the legal aid situation of the district.
She disclosed that there were 736 ongoing cases under Legal Aid Committee and of them, 109 applications were resolved through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). She added that Tk. 31,69,351 was realised from detors and was refunded to the creditors without any cases.
Netrakona Correspondent reports: The National Legal Aid Services Day was observed in the district on Friday as elsewhere of the country with a call to ensure fair justice for all. District Legal Aid Committee chalked out different programs to observe the day.
As part of the programmes, a colorful rally was brought out from the District Judge Court premises in the morning and it was ended at the same place after parading the main streets of the town.
After the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the District Judge Court premises under the auspices of the District Legal Aid Committee.
District Legal Aid Committee Chairman and Senior District and Session judge Mohammad Shajahan Kabir presided over the function.
The meeting was addressed, among others by judge of District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Court Mohammad Iftekhar Bin Aziz, Chairman of Netrakona Zila Parishad Asit Kumar Sarker Sazal Superintendent of Police Mohammad Foyaz Ahmed, Chief Judicial Magistrate Mustak Ahmed, Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Ashik Nur, Mayor of Netrakona Municipality Nazrul Islam Khan and President of Awami League (AL) Netrakona District Unit Adv Amirul Islam, general secretary of AL Netrakona District Unit Advocate Shamsur Rahman Liton and General Secretary of District Bar Association Mahbubur Rahman Liton.
Sr. Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj says: The National Legal Aid Services Day was observed on Friday with a view to ensuring rules of law and justice for everyone.
The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has taken elaborate programme marking the day.
Kishoreganj ‘s Judge Court including District legal aid Services arranged a colourful rally, discussion, postering, handbills, and Ganji -Cap distribution marking the day.
A discussion meeting was held at Judge Court conference room on Friday morning . The Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Saidur Rahaman presided over the programme.
Special Judge (District Judge) Md.Habibullaj, Special Judge (District Judge) Rejaul Karim , Police Super ( SP) Mohammad Rashel Sheikh PPM (Bar) , CJM Md. Al -Mamun , and ADM kazi Mohua Momtaj were attended as special guests.
It was addressed among others by District legal Aid services Officer Sadia Rima, Bar Association president Advocate Shahidul Alam , Ex.. Bar President Advocate Bhupendra Bhowmick Dholon. Special PP and ruling Awami League (AL) district general secretary advocate M. A Afzol , GP Advocate Bijoy Shonkor Roy, Advocate Shah Azizul Haque, Special PP and district Awami League general secretary advocate M A Afzol.
“Sr. District Judge Md. Saidur Rahaman said that, In most of the cases, the hardcore po or are usually being deprived of their constitutional right of getting legal support and that’s why the government has formulated ‘National Legal Aid Services Act in 2000’ to ensure legal assistance to the poor people,”
I believe that celebration of the National Legal Aid Services Day will play an important role to ensure the access of all to the legal aid services programme introduced by the government,” District Judge in Kishoreganj added.
Special Judge Md. Habibullah said, the government’s legal assistance service programmes have important role in establishing justice as well as socio-economic development and achieving ‘Vision – 2041’,Smart Bangladesh.
SP Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PPM (Bar) adding that the success of the legal aid services depends on integrated approach of all concerned organizations including judges, Police lawyers, NGO workers, human rights workers and development partner organizations .
Shahzadpur (Sirajganj) Correspondent reports: The National Legal Aid Service Day was celebrated in Sirajganj Shahzadpur with the theme ‘Fulfillment of Bangabandhu’s dream of free legal services’ on Friday . Shahzadpur Chowki Adalat Legal Aid Committee brought a colorful rally from the Shahzadpur Chowki Adalat premises to mark the day, circumambulating the main roads of the city and ending at the same place. Later, a discussion meeting was held under the chairmanship of Joint Sessions Judge Mamun-ur-Rashid in the Auditorium of the Upazila Lawyers’ Association.
Among others, Shahzadpur Chowki Court Senior Assistant Judge Sohel Rana, Senior Judicial Magistrate Golam Rabbani, Adv. Shah Jalal Mia, A.K.M. Motiar Rahman, Ed. Fazlul Haque, Ahsan Habib Sohail APP, and Mostafizur Rahman Sabuj APP were present there.
The speakers in the meeting said that the establishment of justice is one of the rules for establishing good governance to build a gold bangla free from discrimination and equality cherished by Bangabandhu. The Legal Aid Act, 2000 was enacted to provide legal protection to all sections of the country, to facilitate access to justice for those who are deprived of access to justice due to financial or other reasons. And this is a groundbreaking and people-friendly law by the current government. With the establishment of the National Legal Aid Headquarters in 2009, the Legal Aid Act became a reality and the government legal aid program gained momentum.

This year, the theme of the day is ‘Fulfillment of Bangabandhu’s dream, opening the door to free legal services’.
According to Article 27 of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, all are equal before the law and all are entitled to equal protection of the law. In order to make this right a reality, the ‘National Legal Aid Provision Act 2000’ has been enacted.
Marking the day, a colorful rally was brought out from the premises of the district judge court and ended at the Hashanraja Auditorium of the Zila Shilpakala Academy after parading the main roads of the town.
After the rally, a discussion was held at the Hashanraja Auditorium of the Zila Shilpakala Academy in the morning.
Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Hemayet Uddin presided over the function.
Legal Aid Committee General Secretary Sulekha Dey moderated the discussion.
