BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was released from the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Tuesday.
He gets released from prison after four and a half months.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi with more than 400 BNP leaders and activists were arrested in a raid on the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters on Dec 7 last year.

The BNP leader left the jail at 4:00 pm after securing bail from the court, said Asadul Karim Shahin, BNP Assistant Publicity Secretary.

Shahin said that Rizvi was very sick and he was being taken home immediate after his release.

Over 100 party activists and leaders, including Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, and Dr Rafiqul Islam, greeted Rizvi with flowers after his release in jail gate premises.

After getting release from jail Rizvi said, “The whole country becomes a big prison now.

There are no rights of the people existing in the country. All rights including vote and other democratic and fundamental rights have been snatched by the government”.

Rizvi’s lawyers said he (Rizvi) had secured bail in 50 cases since his arrest and it had taken four and a half months to get the bails. He secured the final bail required for his release from the Gopalganj Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court on April18.

But the authority could not release him as the document papers did not reach at the jail before Eid-ul-Fitr, officials said.
