Dhaka Abahani Limited earned a slim nine-run win over Agrani Bank Cricket Club in their cricket match of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Thursday.
Dhaka Abahani Limited led the points table gaining 18 points from 10 matches, while Agrani Bank earned six points from as many matches.
Sent into bat first, Dhaka Abahani Limited piled up a satisfactory 267 runs in 50 overs and then restricted Agrani Bank to 258 for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs.
Abahani had a solid start as openers Anamul Haque and Mohammad Naim contributed together 71 runs in the opening stand before Anamul Haque was dismissed by Sharifullah.
One-down Najmul Hossain Shanto (2) was dismissed by Asaduzzaman Payel when Abahani’s total was 74 for the loss of two wickets.
Mohammad Naim and second-down Afif Hossain added together 68 runs for the third wicket partnership before Afif was dismissed by Azmir Ahmed when Abahani’s score was 142 for the loss of three wickets.
Mohammad Naim hit a terrific 79. His 75-ball innings was ornamented with 10 fours and two sixes. Naim was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
After dismissal of Afif, Naim was bowled out by Asaduzzaman Payel when Abahani’s score was 142 for the loss of four wickets.
Afif scored 31 from 30 deliveries featuring three fours and a sixer.
Third-down Mosaddek Hossain and fourth-down Jaker Ali added together 63 runs in the five-wicket partnership before Jaker Ali (27) was dismissed by Abu Hider when Abahani’s total was 205 for the loss of five wickets.
Mosaddek Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin added together 54 runs in the sixth wicket stand before Mohammad Saifuddin was dismissed by Abu Hider when Abahani’s score was 259 for the loss of six wickets.
Mosaddek hit a fine 52. His 69-ball knock was belted with two sixes and a four.
Saifuddin made 33 from 22 deliveries including three sixes and a four.
Anamul Haque of Agrani Bank grabbed three wickets in the space of 57 runs, while Asaduzzaman Payel and Abu Hider bagged two wickets each instead of 35 and 56 runs respectively. Later, opener Azmir Ahmed of Agrani Bank was his team’s top scorer with 60 runs. His 63-ball innings was decorated with four sixes and four fours.
Third-down Marshall Ayub remained unbeaten with 58 runs. His 71-ball innings had three fours.
Second-down Elias Sunny hit a sedate 57. his 80-ball knock was ornamented with three sixes and two fours.
Nahidul Islam and Rakibul Hasan played the key role to restrict Agrani Bank. Nahidul and Rakibul picked up two wickets each for 38 and 41 runs respectively.
