An unbeaten 98 by Towhid Hridoy steered Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited to earn an easy seven-wicket win over Prime Bank Cricket Club in their cricket match of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at BKSP Ground-3 in Savar on Thursday.
Sheikh Jamal took the second position in the points table with 18 points from 10 matches, while Prime Bank took the fourth spot earning 12 points from the same number of outings.
Chasing Prime Bank’s total of 244 off 49.1 overs, Sheikh Jamal romped home making 248 for the loss of three wickets when they had 20 balls to spare.
Hridoy hit three sixes and six fours in his 118-ball knock. Hridoy was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning innings.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited made a good start as openers Saif Hasan and Robiul Islam put on together 37 runs in the opening stand before Robiul Islam (18) was bowled out by left-arm spinner Taijul Islam.
After Robiul Islam’s departure, one-down Fazle Mahmud arrived at the crease but he could stay at the pitch for a short time as he (2) was trapped leg before wicket by spinner Mahedi Hasan when Sheikh Jamal’s total was 48 for the loss of two wickets.
Saif Hasan and second-down Towhid Hridoy mended their innings adding together 65 runs for the third wicket partnership before Saif Hassan was dismissed by Karim Janat when Sheikh Jamal’s score was 113 for the loss of three wickets.
Saif Hassan hit a polished 70. His 80-ball innings was laced with seven fours and three sixes.
After Saif’s dismissal, Towhid Hridoy and Nurul Hasan guided their team to anchor the winning target scoring together 135 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket partnership.
Nurul Hasan remained unbeaten with 44 runs. His 59-ball innings was studded with three fours and two sixes.
Prmie Bank had a modest start with the two openers Prantik Nawrose Nabil and Shahadat Hossain contributed together 28 runs in the opening stand before Prantik Nawrose Nabil (19) was dismissed by Ebadot Hossain.
Shahadat Hossain and one-down Mohammad Mithun added together 43 runs for the second wicket partnership before Mithun (19) was bowled out by Arif Ahmed when Prime Bank’s total was 71 for the loss of two wickets.
After Mithun’s dismissal, Shahadat could not stay at the crease for a long period as he was bowled out by Ziaur Rahman when Prime Bank’s score was 73 for the loss of three wickets.
Shahadat made 33 from 49 balls featuring four fours.
Second-down Nasir Hossain and third-down Mushfiqur Rahim built the most valuable partnership scoring together 64 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Nasir Hossain was trapped leg before wicket by Parvez Rasool when Prime Bank’s total was 137 for the loss of four wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim notched up a wonderful 77. His 75-ball innings was laced with seven fours and a sixer.
Nasir Hossain scored 34 from 56 deliveries including three fours.
Mushfiqur Rahim and fourth-down Yasir Ali added together 42 runs in the five-wicket stand before Yasir Ali (13) was run out by a joint-effort of bowler Arif Ahmed and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan when Prime Bank’s score was 179 for the loss of five wickets.
Later, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahedi Hasan put on together 46 runs for the eight wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim was bowled out by Ebadot Hossain when Prime Bank’s total was 226 for the loss of seven wickets.
Mahedi Hasan remained unbeaten with 30 runs. His 28-ball knock had three fours.
Ebadot Hossain of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited was his team’s most successful bowler. He captured four wickets in the space of 41 runs.
