Rihanna becomes most-followed woman on Twitter

Rihanna has overtaken Katy Perry to become the
most-followed woman on Twitter. The ‘Umbrella’ singer is now the fourth-most followed
person on the platform in the world.
Just two months after her Super Bowl halftime
performance, which she carried out whilst pregnant with her second child, RiRi has picked up another career highlight (if online followers are your thing).
That’s because, according to analytics company Social Blade, the singer’s 108,278,326 followers
on Twitter have overtaken Katy Perry’s
108,258,344 followers.
The difference may only be some 20,000 – and may have some back-and-forth, with Perry set to play
more Las Vegas dates this month, which may bag her an extra follower or two – but for a brief time
at least, RiRi is the unofficial queen of Twitter.
Both Rihanna and Katy Perry aren’t too far behind Just Bieber, who ranks third on the Twitter follower rankings with 113,153,027 followers at the time of
writing. Yet these three all fall well short of Barack Obama, with just shy of 133 million followers.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given he owns the darn thing, the most-followed account on the platform
is Elon Musk, although he isn’t too far from the
former President with 134 million followers.
What’s more, in February, reports emerged of
Musk asking engineers at Twitter – which he acquired in October for $44 billion (£35 billion) –
to boost the performance of his tweets. -WhyNow
