Teesta water diversion plan: India yet to respond to Bangladesh’s diplomatic communication
Diplomatic Correspondent :
Bangladesh made a request to the Central Government of India to respond to the construction of two canals on the Teesta River, which was initiated by the West Bengal government, but as of now, there has been no response received from India.
“We still have not received any response from Delhi,” Seheli Sabrin, Director General (Public Diplomacy) and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this during the Weekly
Press Briefing on Thursday.
On March 19, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen informed the journalists that Dhaka requested Delhi to inform about the digging of two canals to divert the water of the Teesta River through a ‘note verbal’.
Apart from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque on March 16 told the journalists that a letter would be sent to the government of India, seeking an explanation about the construction of the canals, but there has been no response from India yet.
